Question about CPU speeds...
I know laptops tend to be somewhat less powerful than their desktop counterparts.
A friend of mine told me that laptop CPUs are about half the power of desktop CPUs. By which he seemed to mean that 1GHz on a desktop would only be matched by 2GHz on a laptop. That is to say he was implying that they are measured on completely different scales, so that a GHz on a desktop is not equivalent to a GHz on a laptop.
Granted, I was also told by this friend that they could avoid the lack of support for windows 7 in the BIOS of some newer computers by switching out the HDD. I was pretty sure the BIOS was part of the MB, and a little light digging confirmed this.
So, is he correct about the CPU speeds being measured differently? My gut says no, but my gut is not always correct.
