Well, I often like playing the more obscure characters. I went for the Monk first (though a lot like the Monk) Played all classes up to the end of the stronghold quests. I've actually been playing this time (my 4th right thru) with a Jester, and it's pretty cool.
I think though, even though it's a quirky character The Beastmaster would be rarely played. When I did the Ranger Stronghold I had two PCs: a Beastmaster, and his brother an Archer. The main put-off is that he can't use metal weapons. He's like a Druid/Ranger hybrid that can't use Scimitars.
However, it did mean I spent a lot of time with less favoured weapons rather than the usual swords, either dual wielding Blackblood and another club, or wielding the staff of Rhynn or any elemental staffs and a longbow. Also he got monster summoning 1, 2 and 3 much earlier than a Druid or Mage. Though limiting it was fun.
There's an earlier thread (now lost) where I detailed the immense damage a Bounty Hunter did in a game where I played four PC thieves specialising in one or two thief skills
Human Swashbuckler (Pickpocket)
Elven Assassin (Stealth)
Human Bounty Hunter (Lay Traps/Illusion detection)
Dwarven Fighter/Thief (Locksmith/Trap disarmer)
A LOT of fun!
