You may end up paying a small fee for changing it but really, if you are dead nice and get a nice person when you call, they should be able to fix this for you. Oh man I think you were really lucky. What happened the first time I called was that they said they charge a fee ($150) plus the difference in fare ($300, not sure what that means) So it would have cost $450 just to change the date of the flight. I haven't called them back yet but I feel like they wouldn't credit the second flight towards another ticket. Well I guess I'll give them a call today.
