SAVE THE GAME BEFORE YOU ENTER THIS HOUSE!
There are bugs in some versions of BGII --- perhaps ALL version, I dunno, I only got caught with an early pre-ToB version --- which could prevent you from finishing this quest. Make a special save and don't overwrite it until you're back at the Order and you've got the credit & XP for doing the quest.
