Hrmm well I just completed that quest last night, after finish killing off all of the trolls in particular the leader of them who can literally smell you coming "much to the chagrin of my poor thief". Anyway head back to the small palisade where you meet the girl who sent you on the quest in the first place (I left her there, already have 2 thieves already and she looks like she breaks easy), well she mentions something about being betrothed blah blah blah.. Basically you get to keep the keep.
However, it is a fighters destiny in the old PnP days to reach 9th level and obtain a manor or keep, and you stated you were playing a Paladin so I highly doubt your going to be able to gain the keep. Your quest should be one to join the holy order or something along those lines.. (Never followed up with the holy rollers myself, so I’m not much help.)
