Why choose a cavalier over a ranger, heres a few reasons..
1.Holy Avenger+5
2.20% resistance to fire and acid
3.Lay on hands and his ability to remove fear
4.Immunity to poison
5.+2 to all saving throws.
6.Immunity to Fear/morale failure
7.+3 to Dragonic AND Demonic creatures.
Only drawback? No bows, but he can still use slings. There is also the race/alignment restriction, but other than that..
