It was a cool crisp morning. President Reagan was in the Big House. My part in this day of history is only very minute, but hey, I was there. The location was Fulda, Germany (Fulda Gap), Delta Company (Tank Pure) 1st Squadron, 11th ACR (Armored Cavalry Regiment). We were on the border, conducting normal 'Frontier of Freedom' missions, when the call came in. We departed OP-A (Observation Post), and moved down and around the corner to the big border crossing gate. Here, we observed the gates open, and the border guards only checking for proper paperwork as both East and West meet for the first time since the end of WWII.
9 November 1989 the unifaction of Germany began.
