These ooze things that you come across from time to time in bg2 and tob. I normally eventually beat them, but they always cause my party and me a lot of damage and trouble that seems far in excess of their xp.

I've tried sending in a fighter protected against poison and well buffed but something always knocks him over. Mages casting hand grenades (mmm) do reasonably well but eventually they take a good slap. In fact a couple of times the magic makes them spawn or has no effect. So my usual tactic is to hit them with a bit of everything and that usually does it. But it does not seem a *professional* way of killing what seems an easy opponent.

Any overall tip or tactic or does it depend on which slime / ooze?
