To force a lock:
Select a strong fighter with a big weapon.
Click on the Attack icon in the lower left (the sword).
Put the cursor over the locked chest, it will turn to an attack symbol, and Click.
The fighter will walk over to the chest and take a swipe at it.
Sometimes he will open the chest.
