Perhaps the designers originally intended for such quests to be acknowledge but just ran out of development time - we'll never know for sure.
As for the No-Dachi - if you can't find it, email me a zipped copy of your gamexx.sav (no other files). Hopefully, I have the code somewhere and will be able to get you a replacement!
