the gloves in question, Gauntlets of Crushing, give +4 to hit, +4 to damage when fighting with fists. that means your THAC0 is reduced by 4 and you do 4 extra damage per hit. this does NOT mean you can hit enemies that require above +3 weapons to hit (such as demi-liches or mages with Improved Mantle).
with ToB monks fists do go up to +4 though...
