If you want to go for a more traditional fighter-mage, specialize in katanas and equip yourself with Celestial Fury and Dakkon's Zerthblade (which gives you bonus spells). Robe of Vecna will help if you want to boost your spellcasting ability, otherwise stick to elven (later Bladesinger) chainmail.
