the answer to your question is Yes you can still get edwin because the renal bloodscalp misson is seperate from the aran linvail mission.
Blades are good because they have some combat bonuses and offensive and defensive spin which can come in handy, Skalds on the other hand have combat bonuses and a different bard song which increeses THACO and damage bonuses
A wizard is an ok choice if your into spellcasting, but if you have ToB you can choose a new mage kit, Wild Mage.
the assassin kit is ok cause you can poison your weapon and you have some combat bonuses but a penalty of 15% to theif skills per level.
