No, they're just changing it from a entertainment event to a serious conference on video games. Those 55k people that aren't going to go anymore are the fake journalists. The 5k that will go are the real journalists from real sources that will now all get private showing and more time dedicated to them so that they can get more info.
E3 wasn't really about getting the information out, it was about the show.
