Doom 3 sourcecode leaked!

Another shock for the gaming community as another case of software theft is brought to attention. Victim this time is noone other than John Carmack, none other than the founder of id Software and developer of the highly anticipated Doom 3.
"The damage is immense," says a shocked and distraught Carmack. "The theft of our main sourcecode now is many times worse than the leak of the D3 alphacode last year.

No comments were released about the exact circumstances of the theft. "There is an obvious leak within our company and we are making every effort to trace it," a spokesman says. It's obvious that the big guns are used in order to track these software thieves and apprehend them. Special computer cells of the FBI and CIA are working on the case alongside Carmack himself.
They are looking toward specialised hackergroups in the former Soviet Union, who are supposed to have connections to employees within id. A research is also running to see if there are any connections with the Valve HL2 sourcecode theft.

And as if the whole ordeal wasn't painful enough, Carmack's personal collection of MP3's and AVI's was also nicked from the scene, including some very sensitive footage showing John Romero in women's clothes, parading through the ID offices (some say this was one of the reasons he got fired in the first place). So more than just the man's gaming heart was hurt in the affair.

How in god's name it is possible that someone gained access to such sensitive files remains to be seen. The delay that this has caused to the game is so far still unknown, but sources expect an April 2006 release is not impossible.
