You don't need to spend an arm and a leg... for less than $80.00 you can get a Geforce 4 TI 4200 with 64 meg... that'll give you all the resolution and bit depth you'll need.
Funny that you mentioned bit depth. I need a card with 48bpp (or preferably 64bpp), spent a couple hours yesterday looking, there's nothing out there yet.
