Curiouser and curiouser. There is some video footage of the Fairford crash here.
Here It is number 25 on the list. If you freeze frame at the point of collision the point of impact is exactly the same as on the photograph and the second aircraft catapults upwards. Also, if you right click on the original photograph the properties show the title to be 'UN_fairford_sm.jpg'. (I appreciate this is not conclusive evidence).
The original photograph must have been taken at an extremely high shutter speed to freeze it like that.
