Kaz, I don't think anyone should doubt your impressions, as you are demonstratably intelligent and thoughtful. Actually, the "kids" contributing on this forum are often more clear and logical than the "adults". Your maturity shows in your perspective.
For what it's worth, among industrialized nations, American schoolkids score lower on average than children from other countries in tests on world geography and history. I hope that will change over time, as our current administration has pledged reform in our school system.
