hey great timing!

i'm soloing as a F/M/T right now (i take this to be the most balanced character). and just creamed yxunomei. phew that was a tought fight. i began the game on very easy but several people on this forum recommended a raise in difficulty to at least normal. i moved it to insane.

this yxunomei battle took close to 15 reloads. but now i'm through. i'd found this a tough fight even as a party of six on insane level.

several things i've noted about soloing:
- you have to have a lot of patience as you can carry only 1/6th the loot. so several trips are required to clear the treasure.
- though it is tiring, selling all your loot does have an upside, you get nearly the best weapons much much earlier in the game.
- all the mage spells are yours if you are a mage and you do not have to try to balance multiple mage books.
- try to avoid buying spells. most spells are available on your enemies corpses. just loot them and just fill up the gaps from the local stores.
- try to boost your ac. your main strength is to remain invincible for some time at the same time wasting your tougher foes.
- you take years to finish the game. i've cleared 1000 days and have just taken care of yxunomei.
- i regret having specialised in bows since it is not as effective as slings in the vale of shadows. moreover you can use a shield at the same time. this is advised as anyways dual-wielding is not possible.
- even though you seem out numbered, the best strategy is to render parts of the opposition ineffective first and then take them in decreasing order of difficulty. but then if your shield wears off take care of any magic missile launching enemies before your melee enemies.
- running around a lot can help in specific situations.
- use luck a lot. in fact buff before any area that contains enemies.
- try to control the fog of war on case of enemies that are scattered all over.
- stamina is not your forte. so try to break up long battles. my eldathyn encounter had me sleeping 7 to 8 times since i didn't use the adventurers help.
- my character does not have the turn undead ability so he has to sweat it out and kill each one by sword or spell.
- area effect spells are really great. especially if you can bunch all the bad guys in a narrow corridor with a web and then bombard them with fireballs mopping up the remains with missile fire.
- you need to constantly adapt your spell selection to the situation at hand. each one differs depending on the monsters and the area.

anyways these are the things that i have noticed during my soloing till now. actually all these tactics could be used as a party too but only when you solo do you think up of these.
