Hmmm... something like that is worth mentioning to your doctor. If you can duplicate it at his or her office, they might also be able to narrow it down fairly quickly for you. It could be a cramp, a dislocation, a muscle popping, or something else... without actually seeing it, it's hard to guess from your descriptions.
I have had times where my leg muscles would cramp up quickly if I let my them relax (like when lying down). Usually it went away after a while; I've heard that increasing your potassium intake can help with cramping and things like that.
