From what I heard they slowed the car down a great deal so they didn't want to injure it... I think that at some poitn they knew they were going to die and that was their last-ditch effort of saving their innocent son fromt he fate that they would soon meet... What they did was awful, yes, but the baby was unharmed. Forces at work here played a role that obviously had good intentions, in my opinion.
