In my opinion, the best (or at least my favourite) character is a paladin. They are SOOO cool. And you can use a really neat weapon.
Or if you like spell casting then I'd go for a wild mage (can only be played if you have ToB installed) or a sorcerer.
But all of that is just my little opinion and what I find fun. You might find that utterly boring. Ya gotta stick with what yer good at.
