I don't recall you having to do any damage to Kera only that you need to wait until she is a bit more "sane" to give her the Holy Water (is she only more sane if you have inflicted damage? It has been too long since I played this section through).
While it is necessary to be in the room with Cet and Kera to set off this sequence of events you need not stay in this room. As Bungleau suggested it is best to keep the video activity as minimal as possible (so keep Cet out of your field of vision, try to stare at something that doesn't need to change)- now try going back into the previous room - Kera should follow you and hopefully you should not lock up.
