That isn't true. If you decide to modify your X-box there are still plenty of other places you can go to play games online, you just won't be able to use X-Box Live, which is how it should be. It pretty clearly states when you sign up for the service that it is for use with unmodified hardware only, if someone couldn't live with that, then the shouldn't have signed up for the service to begin with.
