A report called The effect of Country Music on Suicide published in 1996 by two American socilogists, Steven Stack and Jim Gundlach, was the first study of the link between country music and suicide rates. It concludes that wherever country music is played, the white suicide rate is higher then average,"indepent of divorce, southernness, poverty and gun availability".
