LOL you don't need grid power to use the phone! Are you trying to catch up with that customer in the conversation?  Well of course cordless phones need power but the wired phones take the little power they need from the phone socket - I certainly know our phone works during a power cut otherwise I wouldn't have been able to phone the electricity company fault report number!
