I haven't played with more than 3 for about 20 finishes. I've been rolling random Race/Class and using a 1-3 to determine how many, and playing to try to make it no matter what silly combinations i get. Reduces my success rate quite a bit, but it puts the excitement in.
I only played five games with all 6 slots filled, and i've used an RPC (aside from the alliance bit) twice. After my first try with only 4, i have not "gone back" to more than that.
