You may need to enable the compression codecs in your Control Panel. To do this, go to the Multimedia icon in Control Panel, click on the Audio tab, and then click on the "Advanced" button.

There's a thread I wrote on this in the "Windows 2000 Town Bug Fix" thread; it can be used with Windows ME as well.
