Good post TL and it should raise a lot of alarm bells. What is that old saying about knowing whats going on in your own backyard? can't recall but with regards to b. in the second question:

Crossing, a telecommunications giant seeking a major Pentagon contract.

Perle resigned just yesterday i believe from the Defense board because of questions raised about his position with those companys specifically Global Crossing.
