Unfortunately you can miss quests, I didn't get the Scabban quest as well because I didn't even realize there was a magic shop in the first village till late, BUT my warlock is lvl4 in the magic guild and can do what I want her to do at this point so I am not worried, remember these are optional quests anyways so if you miss a couple you'll be fine. The toad village thing I never had a problem but I don't doubt some pathing problems =(. And GotAnger check around nymph lake, there is a frog that roams by the dock on the town side (next to the old windmill) his name is Meldawa and he will tell you about how you are the Ukabu and with that knowledge you can get into the toad village, he is also the one for the priest quest.
