The Mozilla Foundation, which developes Firefox, is a non-profit organisation. In other words, there is no profit. At least, not in the way of money. It's much the same situation as we have here: Ziroc doesn't make any profit from providing Ironworks, so why does he provide it? And the answer is the same in both cases: satisfied users are profit enough. To me, this is a good thing - Firefox isn't a money-garnering thing like Opera, or IE. Firefox exists to satisfy its users, and to provide a standards compliant browser. If you look around, there are lots of programs like this: Open Office, GNU Ghost Script, the GIMP, GAIM, Linux, etc. In most cases, they are as good as their proprietry counterparts, in many cases they are better. Don't be put off by the fact that you don't have to pay - enjoy it.
