edwin is clearly the best spellcaster. getting two extra spells per level from his necklace plus one extra for being a specialist more than compensates for the fact he can't use divinitory magic. he's available far earlier than imoen, is funnier than minsc, less annoying than jan, and during part of his stay, prettier than nalia.
second best is aerie just from the sheer volume of spells she's able to cast. at chap6 and beyond she can wipe out practically anything without breaking a sweat, and sweat on an avariel is very nasty.
