With a cat, ferret, or other type of large beast it would depends on the dorm room. If it is just a single room than No, get a fish or turtle, or spider. Some dorms are built these days are like apartments however with kitchen, living room, bath room, and bedrooms. If it is one of those than a cat may be OK.
