The ram isn't compatible with your motherboard or other components of your machine. At least that has happened to me as I had the same problem buying ram. I bought some and it didn't work and was accused of having a bad slot. But no because i put my old ram in and it worked fine. Then once setting the moron at the store straight i was given some ram from a different brand and it worked fine.
