well, I usually use mages or sorcerors, or fighter/mages, but I'm currently cruising amn with a kick ass monk, and as redundant as this is, he kicks some serious ass!!! I did a couple minor quests and then decided to check out the twisted rune, since I had recently acquired a rogue stone, and with bare fists (and SOME strength buffing, ie., girdle of _____ giant strength) he took down the beholder in three shots and one of the vamps before getting taken out by the others who had just slaughtered the rest of my party. Yes, hindsight is twenty twenty and since then I have reconsidered my decision to take on the "runies" at level nine. But seriously, I think the monk can SERIOUSLY contend with any theif class at lower levels, and i think the monk is WAy better than theives at high levels.
