A solar storm is when a bunch of solar eruptions go off in space. These usually let go of some form of CMEs (coronal mass ejections), which can basically carry one hell of a load of electrified gas through space at a high speed. Don't worry about being fried, because CMEs will be deflected from Earth by our magnetic field.
