I've got two boys in school, and I've been getting more and more outraged by these sorts of crimes perpetrated againgst our young men in school... EVERYWHERE, not just in Florida. As far as I can tell there seems to be a concerted effort to mold our young men and women into... women. Activities that are necessary for young boys to burn off excess energy are being curtailed or eliminated. Behaviors that are consistant with the active, inquisitive, and "hands on" nature of boys are being punished. And Ritalin is the answer to the harried teachers woe's when she's incompetent, incapable of dealing with young men. At a time when over 90% of primary school teachers are women... women who are FAILING... there's still no drive to draw more men into teaching. The current gender gap in US primary and secondary schools is a disgrace. The average boy is a year and a half behind the average girl by 9th grade. Women currently earn 57% of all Bachelors degrees, a number which is expected to increast to 66% by 2010. These trends need to be fought, they need to change... and soon.
Some reading material for those who worry about the education (or lack of) their boys are receiving.
