The thing about Thatcher and Major was that people knew what they were letting themselves in for when they voted. People voted for Blair because they wanted something different. Their expectations were that a Labour government would be better than a tory one. Those hopes were dashed by Blair as he and his government have consistently churned out policies indistinguishable from those of the tories. That is why people hate Blair so much. When people voted for Thatcher and Major, they got what they expected. When they voted for Blair they were voting for something different, and just got more of the same. That's why he is the the worst Briton - millions of people feel he has let them down. [/QB]
True on the Thatcher - Major. But did people really expect a left wing labour government with Blair?. After being irrelevant since 1979, the people constantly rejecting the traditional socialist labour leadership ideals of Kinnock, Foot, Benn, Healy, Callaghan ect. The labour party came to realise that if they where to appeal to a majority of voters they had to move the party towards the centre. Which they began with Smith and completed with Blair. I cannot understand why labour supporters get so upset with the labour party finally giving the public what they wanted. Sure I would like Blair to be more socialist but then he would just be the leader of the opposition
The public got what they wanted.
