First thing that comes to mind is the fan, But this may not be the case. The fan may not be starting which is a serious problem, I had the same problem in my old laptop, but buy the time i realised what was happening, Most of the inside of my computer had almost literaly melted.

There are may cheap fans that can be bought and simply attached to the side of the laptop to stop it from overheating.

If You want, you could oper the laptop up and see if the fan is running, The fan should be visible, And you can get inside most laptops just by lifting off the keyboard.

But apart from that i have no idea what else it could be.
