I've never been fond of playing dwarves myself, but they can become quite powerful. I'm not sure they included the resistance rules in the computergame, but it's true that anyone (of any race) with a constitution of 20 or more regenerates (1 hp/round at 20, 2 hp/rd at 21 and so on). Dwarves just get the bonus which allows them to reach a con of 20 from the start.
