It doesn't appear as though the mother is blaming EQ singularly, but rather the psychologically-addictive nature of many computer-related pastimes. I think she is more distraught over the lack of knowledge/treatment/concern for the detrimental effects (and there are definately some detrimental effects) of computer-addiction than over the game itself. I sure know I can get overly wrapped up in computer stuff, not to the point where I'd be considering suicide, but I guess that sort of thing creeps up gradually. Computer gaming and the commercial internet are very new technologies, introduced only in the last generation or so. It will be very interesting to see what the long-term effects on the way people think and act as a result of the introduction of these technologies into mainstream social life are going to be.
