The easiest way to beat a lich is to combat him with a mage. Cast spells like spell deflection or spelltrap if you got it(you can get it from the staff of Magi too) Deathward also helps. And elemnetal resistance(especially fire) is good.
Move up to him and leave the rest of the party out of sight. Start to summon things so he can have something to waste his spells on. He will most likely cast deathspell on your first summons, so dont summon your best summons to begin with. When he has used a couple of death spells. Summon Skeletons(they got 95% magic resistance) and maybe nishruus or haekashars. Mordekainen swords are good as well. If he goes invisible, cast true sight to disable it. Cast Ruby ray of reversal and breach to remove his spell protections. And when he starts on that imprionment thing cast spell immunity>Abjuration to protect yourself. When all of his spell protections are removed your summons will be able to damage him, and you might be able to try some offensive spells yourself and even send the whole party in for the kill.
Also if you got the ring of the ram, this would indeed be very helpful.
