The game only checks race when you first meet the person. So when you were Half-Orc, and talked to Jaheria in the starting dungeon, the game ended all chance of romance right there.
If you could find someone who knew which global variables to set, then you could probably fix the problem. I don't know what the values are supposed to be off the top of my head however.
