Sorry, SecretMaster, that won't work. If he didn't thank you for killing the Druids when you met him in the Cloakwood, he will NOT appear in Baldur's Gate. It's a bug. The computer thinks you killed him, hence his absence from the Merchant League doorstep and the presence of his vengeful brother. If you really want to talk to him, you'll have to hack him into the game--though I'm not sure that will allow you to do his quest.

And don't bother trying to pick the lock on the Merchant League door. Only Aldeth can open it for you. (Meaning, if you do get in, don't leave anything of value inside!)
