Safe mode could do the trick. It does wipe out a lot of the background settings in the registry and so often fixes things like this.

Theres also a registry key you could alter that might fix this, but I lost my note of it. Willow posted it a while back. It may be possible to fix this by going into control panel and searching for settings related to power saving etc.
