I did the same thing a few weeks ago. I was replacing a motherboard for a customer under warranty. So I needed to remove the CPU to transfer to the new board and both Processor and Heatsink pulled out with the lever down. I did not want to use a screwdriver to pry it apart so I called Tech Support(IBM)for advice and to complain
. The tech said to place the CPU over the socket on the new board and lock it down with the lever down! I was more than shocked and hung up. There was no way I was going to attempt it, so I called again and got another tech. I told him about what the other tech said and he could not believe it. I told him I could not understand what kind of compound would make it stick like that and how can you possibly change a systemboard if this happens. I was glad that the CPU wasn't damaged. I was then transferred to the Head Tech. I was told to pry it apart with a screwdriver. I told him he better teach his techs a few things because if they give people this kind of advice they're causing all kinds of trouble.
In the end, it all worked out ok.
I just can't imagine how a CPU can pull out of the socket with lever down, though.
