According to the article, that picture must have been taken a few seconds *AFTER* the jet broke the sound barrier (because light travels faster than sound). But the condensation of the air water, again from the article, doesn`t last all that long.
Therefore, there`s a good chance (but not a sure thing) that that photo is computer generated.
