I guess I'm going from the flip-side of the coin.
I'd keep Mazzy, then take in Imoen and kick out Valygar. Reason being that Mazzy pretty well outperforms Valygar in any combat front. She makes a great sniper if you feel tank heavy, but she can tank with the best if you threw her in front and stuck Viconia or Jaheria in the back with a sling. I actually prefer to take mazzy and begin specializing her in 2-handed weapons so she won't be limited to short swords or the short bow. There are a wide variety of great 2-H swords and halberds out there, and she does ridiculously well with them.
With the exception of a few npcs, nobody handles combat better then mazzy (except of course, a melee intensive PC)
