ditto on the STR

I'd actually drop CON to 16, WIS to something reasonable and give him some INT which will allow him to use scrolls. From a RP prospective I'd give some CHR as well.

My BG1 thief had STR 18, DEX 18, CON 15, INT 15, WIS 9, CHR 10. He got all the tomes available so starts BG2 as an Assassin with STR 19, DEX 19, CON 16, INT 16, WIS 12, CHR 11. I fully intend to beat the game solo (I've tried before, getting as far as Sahaguin City before quitting).

A thief can detect and remove traps (no-one else can), and with TOB installed can get UAI (scrolls!) and getting 3m XP as a solo isn't tough.
