funny thing is recording companies happily encourage selling blank tapes and have done for years yet they know full well that people arent going to "back up" their current collection, they are instead going to copy songs off other people, the reason they didnt care back then was the industry wasnt as big as it got and filesharing is quicker and easier way of getting files far eclipsing simple tape copying.

but i agree its a terrible idea for the RIAA to get involved in the ISPs its none of their business, if they have a problem take it up with the filesharing programs, but dont involve the majority of people using the internet who do so without filesharing. They have no right whatsoever to go to the ISPs and try and get any information out of them, it is private and should be kept that way the users themselves shouldnt be penalised because otherwise your going to have to sue everyone equally not just pick on a few people, close the filesharing programs and theres no problem, but dont blame those programs for affecting the industry, whats affected the industry is its own greed.

id be very angry indeed if i got charged more by my isp on that basis.
